This panel will discuss how to prepare for the increasingly broad spectrum of emergencies employers face -- including workplace accidents, workplace violence, natural disasters -- and issues you should consider in developing an emergency response plan for your facility and OSHA compliance/investigations.

11:00  Accommodations 2.0: Unseen Disabilities, Marijuana and the Impact of Technology on the Reasonable Accommodation Process

What new trends are we seeing in accommodation requests and lawsuits? How can businesses better manage the “new wave” of accommodation requests, such as mental illness, emotional support animals, legal marijuana use and website accessibility? These questions and more will be addressed during this session.

We will discuss best practices for conducting workplace investigations under the scrutiny of media and public bias. This session will focus on the employer’s ongoing obligations under employment laws in an environment in which there has been a public backlash over #MeToo. It will also review recent data showing the change in public perception after #MeToo.

This session will look at the latest in the world of wage and hour issues, including unusual issues and recent changes.  For instance, what do you do with interns and volunteers?  What is the latest standard on independent contractors?  How do you calculate the regular rate for overtime purposes in a “gig economy?”
 

3:30  Supervision Jeopardy - Match Wits on America's Favorite Labor and Employment Quiz

This presentation will creatively address the toughest leave questions under the FMLA, ADA, and Workers' Compensation laws and, of course, a potpourri of emerging issues in labor and employment law.
