Client Gets Stolen Domain Back Through WIPO Arbitration
Spilman's Intellectual Property Group recently succeeded in recovering a stolen website domain name for a national franchise that sells fresh-baked bread and other items. The domain had been hijacked by a Russian national named Elizaveta Salina -- probably a pseudonym. The hijacking occurred shortly after the registration lapsed and before our client had a chance to renew it for a new franchisee. The hijacker of the domain was using the site for an escort service. We filed for arbitration in the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and received a default award after the domain hijacker failed to answer the complaint.
