Mr. Riley is a registered patent attorney at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and his primary areas of practice are intellectual property law, including patent, trademark, and copyright law, and corporate law, including commercial transactions, mergers, and acquisitions.

Experience

  • Preparing and prosecuting patent and trademark applications before the USPTO
  • Preparing copyright registrations before the United States Copyright Office (USCO)
  • Coordinating with international associates to obtain intellectual property protections worldwide
  • Guiding researchers, inventors, and business owners through the legal processes and best practices necessary to protect the integrity of their work and the value of their assets
  • Advising on intellectual property ownership, protection, and licensing issues across a broad range of disciplines at for-profit and nonprofit organizations
  • Conducting prior art searches, patentability analyses, trademark clearances, and similar intellectual property due diligence projects
  • Drafting and negotiating various corporate, transactional, and research related agreements
  • Advising on technology transfer, data privacy, export controls, risk management, and institutional research compliance
  • Advising on rights of publicity, including the use and licensing of name, image, and likeness (NIL) rights
  • Managing, maintaining, and enforcing the rights of clients’ intellectual property asset portfolios
