Bailes, Craig & Sellards Firm Becomes Spilman’s Ninth Location

Huntington, W.Va. — Spilman Thomas & Battle (Spilman) announced that several attorneys from the well-established law firm of Bailes, Craig & Sellards (BCS) have joined with Spilman as its ninth location. This marks Spilman’s first office in Huntington, West Virginia and strengthens its regional presence in the tri-state area.

Robert M. Sellards will serve as the Member in Charge of the Huntington office. He served as managing partner at BCS as well.

“Our practice and culture complement Spilman’s perfectly, and everything just fit. They have embraced us, and we are thrilled to join them,” Sellards said.

The attorneys in Spilman’s new Huntington office bring significant strength to an already robust health care law practice, adding considerable depth in medical malpractice defense, in addition to litigation, labor and employment law, and transactional work. The location is a strategic expansion to better meet the needs of a growing client base, both geographically in the tri-state area and substantively in the area of health care law.

“We take a very analytical approach to growth,” said Michael J. Basile, Spilman’s Managing Member. “My background and practice center upon economic development. And we tend to analyze opportunities as site location consultants approach their trade.”

“Over the past two decades, we’ve focused and executed upon opportunities throughout northern West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, and, most recently, northern Florida,” he continued. “When we turned toward evaluating our next site location, Huntington hit the center of our radar screen.”
