Spilman Strengthens Estate & Corporate Team with New Hire
Charleston, W.Va. — Spilman Thomas & Battle (Spilman) announced that Charles W. “C. W.” Pace, Jr., recently joined the law firm as a partner in its Charleston office.
Pace’s primary areas of practice are estate planning, probate, commercial transactions, corporate law, and tax. He regularly provides advice and assistance to clients on a wide array of estate planning strategies, including various forms of complex transfer tax planning strategies, business succession, special needs trusts, and charitable trusts. He also advises fiduciaries on trust, probate, and estate matters.
Pace worked as Vice President & Personal Trust Specialist in BB&T’s Wealth Management Department for several years prior to returning to private law practice.
“Many of us at Spilman have known C. W. for years, some dating back to law school and before,” said David P. Ferretti, Chair of the firm’s Corporate Department. “We know what a terrific lawyer he is and are extremely happy to have him on board.”
In the area of corporate and business law, Pace provides advice and assistance in connection with business and nonprofit entity formation. He drafts, reviews, analyzes, and negotiates contracts, leases, asset purchase agreements, stock purchase agreements, commercial lending agreements, and other forms of transaction documents for commercial-based transactions. He also drafts, reviews, and analyzes contracts between co-owners of closely held organizations.
Pace currently serves on the Probate Committee of the West Virginia State Bar and as Director of the Charleston Estate Planning Counsel. He also is a member of the Rotary Club of Charleston.
He earned his B.S. in Accounting, summa cum laude, from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and his J.D. from West Virginia University College of Law.
