Spilman SuperVision Helps Region’s Largest Employers Manage New Uncertainties
Roanoke, Va. — Spilman Thomas & Battle, PLLC (Spilman) announced that that nearly 75 business leaders from the Roanoke region gathered today for the firm’s SuperVision™ symposium, which focused on providing the keys to manage the most problematic human capital issues. The popular SuperVision™ learning series is part of Spilman’s comprehensive approach to helping businesses maximize their human capital.
A highlight of this year’s SuperVision™ symposium was the keynote presentation by Harry I. Johnson, III, member of the National Labor Relations Board. The NLRB is an independent federal agency that endeavors to protect the rights of private sector employees to join together, with or without a union, to improve their wages and working conditions. The board and its members, such as Johnson, work to fairly enforce the National Labor Relations Act.
“The Affordable Care Act, social media and smartphones have created many stumbling blocks for today’s businesses,” said King F. Tower, who leads Spilman’s labor and employment practice in Virginia. “Our SuperVision symposiums are aimed at helping businesses avoid such pitfalls and manage their workforce in an effort to prevent employee claims.”
Additional presentations focused on providing human resources professionals and business leaders with the keys to unlock today’s most challenging human resources and employment law challenges. Topics covered included telecommuting, social media, the Affordable Care Act, employee leaves of absence, and employee performance and corrective actions.
The SuperVision™ event series was launched seven years ago by Spilman’s labor and employment group, which has been nationally recognized for excellence in representation of management in employment disputes. The symposiums are noted for having unique peer-to-peer exchanges and question and answer sessions.
