Team Spilman Fights NC Hunger

April 23, 2014

25-person Office Donates Equivalent of 4,624 Meals

Winston-Salem, N.C. – The 2014 North Carolina Legal Feeding Frenzy food drive collected more than 347,000 pounds of food, nearly double the amount of last year’s collection, for the state’s food-insecure residents. Lawyers, law departments, judges and law schools across North Carolina donated generously to the effort, which concluded earlier this month.

The Winston-Salem office of Spilman Thomas & Battle, PLLC (Spilman) is pleased to have contributed to this massive effort to fight hunger. The 25-person Spilman team donated more than 5,500 pounds of food, or the equivalent of approximately 4,624 meals.

“It was great to be part of a local effort to help individuals and families in need in such a deep and meaningful way,” said Bryan G. Scott, Member at Spilman and co-chair for the statewide Legal Feeding Frenzy. “Thanks to the efforts of 79 teams across the state, the Feeding Frenzy will be able to provide food to thousands in North Carolina.”

The Spilman team had the highest per-person contribution among small firms in Winston-Salem and Greensboro, donating 231 pounds of food per office member. Despite having a larger team than the previous year, the office increased its donations by 73 pounds per person.

The charitable effort is organized and led by the North Carolina Bar Association Young Lawyer’s Division, the North Carolina Association of Food Banks and Attorney General Roy Cooper.
