- Member of the West Virginia State Senate, serving as the Majority Whip; Chair, Committee on the Military; and Vice Chair, Committee on the Judiciary
- Former Captain in the United States Air Force Reserve; Previous duty assignments include Washington, D.C., Germany, and Afghanistan
